The Woodlands Rotary Club will present its 1st annual Oktoberfest on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27

The Woodlands Rotary Club will present its 1st annual Oktoberfest on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, at Town Green Park, located along The Waterway and adjacent to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

All proceeds from Oktoberfest will go directly to The Woodlands Rotary Club Foundation, a 501c(3) organization, to raise funds for local students’ scholarships. The event is expected to attract festival-goers from around the area, many dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes.

"The success of the Tomball German Heritage Festival, held in late March, highlights the attractive nature and spirit of the German heritage in our area. Our Oktoberfest will exemplify the true spirit of the traditional fall harvest festivals in Germany. There will be something fun to do for all ages," says Bob Schucker, The Woodlands Rotary Club’s President and Oktoberfest chairperson. "

This family-oriented Oktoberfest will feature music from German bands as well as authentic German food. Oktoberfest Bavarian souvenirs will also be for sale in the festival's craft vendor fair.

Ticket prices are $10 per person, 10 years and older; $5 for children 2 years – 10 years old; and free for children under 2 years. For more information about advanced ticket purchases or the event, visit Rotary’s Oktoberfest site.

For sure in Texas

Did you realize that your Texas driver's license has a phone number on the back, just above the bar code on the lower left side: 1-800-525-5555. (It's in Very Small Print, but it Is there.) Many of us have Triple A, or have opted to have roadside assistance available from our auto insurance or included when we purchased our cars, but if you don’t have it, this number can be called for emergency assistance on the highway or wherever you might have trouble while in your car. I’m told a service truck will be sent to you as well as a state trooper to make sure all is well and that it is a service that is state operated and paid for with your tax dollars. If you are ever stranded, just call the number on your driver's license...and help is on the way.

WHAT IS DOSEY DOES?

WHAT IS DOSEY DOES? Visit their website for a full description and menu selections but in a nutshell, it’s one of my favorite places. The food is wonderful and the entertainment is exciting. According to their website at www.doseydoescoffeeshop.com, “The Dining/Live Music Hall is built from a 150 year old barn from Kentucky. Hand Hewn (cut by axe instead of saw). It is made entirely of 300 year old growth Oak and Birch. The process of taking the barn down, re-raising it, and finishing it out took two and one half years. Mr. Michael Ford was the construction mastermind and is currently one of our Managers.

We love the idea of bringing this lost art of construction and a very real piece of American History back to life in a fashion that so many can enjoy. Adorned with all original signage, artwork, photos, general store wares, antiques, leaded glass windows, and milk glass (school) lights all from the late 1880’s to mid 1900’s. We hope that visiting Dosey Doe will give you a chance to let the mind rest and just “take you away”. Smoking is available on the outside patio only.

Dosey Doe is now considered to be one of the best music venues in the U.S. by artists and fans alike. Just ask Clint Black, Leon Russell, Marcia Ball, Michael Martin Murphy, Larry Gatlin, Mason Williams, Richie Havens, Deryl Dodd, Radney Foster, Tish Hinojosa, or Lee Roy Parnell (see photo) who have played here. "I have played them all, big and small, but I have never played a place that sounds as good as Dosey Doe!" Gary P. Nunn.

Keep us in mind for corporate and civic meetings as we have several rooms and areas all available with WiFi and plug in computer access and we can come to you with a catered affair including party trays and businessman’s lunches. In addition to a full kitchen we also have a complete bakery where we can supply your Holiday and Special Occasion needs: cakes, pies, cookies.”

Visit the website for more information. You won’t be disappointed.
